1st gen hardtop threads missing

There are four bolts that connect the hardtop to the cab roof. Somehow one the threads on inside the cab roof fell off so I dont have anything to screw into. Normally I wouldnt worry about it but it is a critical bolt for my bikini top. Anybody have suggestions? I would think there would be some kind of insert but I cant find anything. Does anyone know if I have access the the inside of my cab roof? I really dont want to tear apart my headliner finding out.

Sorry, that sucks!

Without a photo I'm guessing here.... you could drill it a tad larger, then helicoil it and use the larger size bolt for that particular hole (you'd likely have to drill out the bikini top mount for that hole, and maybe the fiberglass on the hardtop, But I think those holes have a lot of play in them already.

Photos??

Rivnut or Nutsert could be used of you drill out or remove the old nut that was in there.

Personally, I'd pull the headliner and molding back to see what i have to work with, and probably just tack another nut in place of the damaged threads.

There is not anything to drill into. There is a layer of sheet metal (which is the cab roof) then there should be a nut behind it that provides the threads. Thanks for your response. I'll get on that picture.

Hmm I will have to look into the Rivnut. I would pull the headliner but I am scared that I wont get it to look stock after I am done.
Thanks

Aha, that makes sense now - thought you just had striped threads. I've taken my top off several times....think I'd realize what you meant, sorry.

The Rivet Nut approach would likely be your best bet, especially if you don't want to get into the headliner. Just make sure you get something robust and not too soft - you want a good tight seal, like you said.
