1993 Front Shock Bushing & Retainers

1993 4x4 xtra cab pickup: Front stock shock absorber install, trying to figure out the proper sequence of the retainers and bushings in relation to the top shock tower

Anyone know if part 48510C shock retainer (see parts diagram below) goes on the bottom of the top rubber bushing (on the top of the shock tower) or does it go on the top of the bottom rubber bushing (on the underside of the shock tower) ??

1993 Truck front shock mount

Basically where is the shock tower situated in this shock absorber diagram

Just what new hardware did you get with your shock ?

Most aftermarket shocks come with 2 rubber bushings and 2 shaped washers .

Just like your picture is

I'm using OEM shocks and hardware to reinstall.. My intuition says that the middle retainer (48510C) goes on the bottom of the top bushing (thereby on the top of the shock tower)

correct, it should have a lip on it that fits in the hole that the stem goes thru

Just did all my shocks and from what I recall the top cushion had a little extra material that mated with the frame mount hole. From top down it should be:

1. Nut
2. Retainer
3. Cushion
4. Frame Mount
5. Retainer
6. Cushion
7. Retainer
8. Shock

From the 2nd gen FSM:
