1992 SR5 3.4 swap

1992 SR5 3.4 swap
OK, so I just walked outside and look what was in my truckbed...
The Toyota Fairy must have stopped by last night.
And the Toyota Fairy even left a matching Tranny!
Aw, the Toyota Fairy knew EXACTLY what this 1992 needed.
So it looks like I will be starting the swap sometime in the near future. I will document it here. This will be the last truck I ever buy, because once you have one of these with a 3.4 what could possibly top it?
More to come very soon...

Here is a pick of the truck that will be getting the swap. Interior is 100% perfect, not a light that doesn't work, not a fan in the AC duct that doesn't work...EVERYTHING works like new! This will be a nice one once it has the swap done and new paint. As for paint...Flat Black, Multicam, or General Lee? Decisions, decisions.
My last truck I will ever buy. Think I will name him Beauregard.

Got the parts from a 97 T100. Traded a 1987 Ext Cab 4X4 with the 22RE. It was ROUGH (rust bucket) all around so I traded it for the parts and $600 cash. It had a great engine in it though so it was fair.

Yes, got the ECU. As for the transmission I am going to use the one already in the truck. I am going to sell the one from the T100. From what I gather they are pretty close to the same, and I don't want to have to buy anything else to correct for the opposite side output on this tranny. But it was a good package deal and someone needs an auto 4WD tranny from a T100, I just know they do. Going back today to pull the cab wiring harness, that should be fun.

So in pulling the wiring harness from the T100 am I to underastand I only really need to get the plugs that mate up to the engine harness, them simply re-pin those onto the existing harness in the cab of my truck? Does not sound too difficult, certainly will give it a try rather than spend $800 on an ORS harness...unless someone convinces me otherwise. Trying to avoid as many pitfalls as possible.

OK, so I picked up the airbox, MAF, charcoal canister and all the plugs I could cut off inside the cab. Now the research begins....mating cab wiring from a 1992 3.0 SR5 auto to a 1997
T100 auto engine and ecu. I have that tranny, any GOOD reason I should put in in instead of the tranny that came with the 1992?

OK, so I got it out of the truckbed, removed the oil-pan, flywheel and torque converter. Guess someone had been in there because the torque converter was missing a bolt!
Aisin timing belt kit with water pump on the way, new seal and gaskets coming. Forgot the dang ole ODBII plug so hpefuly I can go back and get that.
Got all the EWDs for the 1992 SR% auto 4x4 adn the 1997 T100 Auto 4x4 so just getting my wiring spreadsheets built.
This may be a slow build, but it will be done RIGHT!

Finally got to sandblasting some parts today. No pics but I will post them this week. Still no OBDII plug...anyone have one to sell?
Trying to decide on paint color for the block, heads, oil pan. Maybe blue for the heads and pan, and light gray for the block to spot those oil leaks that will eventually come.
BTW anyone needing a 4WD Trans let me know. Got this one from the T100 for sale, 145K on it.

Been fishing a lot lately but finally got the front end done. Timing components, water pump, oil pump, all shaft seals. Cleaned the engine up etc. Going to throw some paint on the engine then I'll post. Next is pulling the 3.0... glorious days ahead!

OK, so I had a bad root canal and blew my knee so I have not done much. But the engine is done, all new seals, cleaned, timing set, buttoned up. Below are a few pics of the mess. I'll probably wait until early October to pull the 3.0 as I need the truck for some home projects before summer ends.
anyway, enjoy some random pics of the process...
Sometimes yo just gotta leave the project and fish for Smallmouth
Timing belt coming off
Intake off
Organize your work space...
Oil pump and new front seal...
Rear Main, broke a bolt...yeah, you've done it too...sucks.
Clean and prepped oil pan
Oil pickup
Rear main done
Not to dirty inside for the mileage
Had to throw some color on it...
Canshaft seals...
Timing belt on, everything replaced including all bearings.
Buttoned up with a nice new bowtie on it.
Wiring harness has been degrimed and dried
...yeah, parts and stuff (Anyone need that tranny?)
Crossover pipe, all belts, and other various crap
Mounting brackets sandblasted, primed, and painted
Scrap heap of old parts.

No Updates
OK, so after getting it buttoned up I have let it sit while I took a new job and winter set in. Once it gets a bit warmer I will be pulling the old 3.Slow and finishing this up. (yeah, I have been a bit lazy the past 7-8 months)
