1990 4Runner V6 Plenum Hoses

Okay, so like a good boy I made sure to mark where each hose went, those little vacuum hoses (numbered) on the passenger side of the plenum are the ones I am mainly concerned about.

1st, out of curiousity, what the heck are those for anyway?

2nd, and more important, is there a diagram anywhere that shows me where they should go?

The reason I ask is because this engine has been apart before I bought it, I know because someone used orange gasket sealer on the valve covers, Toyota doesn't do that.

There are 7 little hoses, and like the big cartoon rooster, fortunately they've been numbered for just such an emergency. However, the way they are put onto the intake seems odd to me.

The top little plastic piece (non-tech name) had three nipples for hoses. On that was *, 1 and 2. The lower set has 3, 5 and 6, and a random one all by itself is numbered 4.

Now the way my brain works says that those should be set up 1,2 and 3, and 4, 5, and 6, with the *(star) going by itself. Or maybe *=0 and that could be *,1, and 2, but then 4, 5 and 6 should be together eh? Or at least 3, 4 and 5?

Shouldn't there be SOME order to these? They run to little circuit type plugs over on the side of the engine compartment.

Thanks!

i have recently taken my upper intake off. The cluster of three hoses at the top of the intake is the 4x4 and the 3 lower hoses connecting to the metal tips 1 is for EGR, 1 for Fuel Pressure Reg and i have no idea about the 3rd. Make sure that the line pulling vac full time is connected to the Fuel Reg!

hope i helped

Found some pics and diagrams on here, I think I'll be okay.

Like I said, this is how I found them, and I can put them back where I found them. The truck was running fine, no problems at all (minus the gas leak on the fuel damper, hence why I have the plenum off anyway), so if I put them back where they were that should be okay.

I just wanted to add some pics that may help others... I printed this pic out and labeled each of the openings on the plenum, then put wire markers on each of the corresponding vacuum lines.

I have 3 books and none are show some of the hoses I found but using a little common logic sence I figued what they do.

It wouldnt let me add this same time.

Maybe this might be worthy of going into the Tech writeup section.

I never noticed any problem, but in the last week or so I have noticed that my 4Runner runs really rough for the first few minutes after I start it up. Once it "clears" that out it runs fine, but idles really choppy and doesn't sound good, but if I give it a little gas and let it warm up a bit (sometimes less than a minute) it runs great until I let it sit for several hours again. I am now wondering if there's a hose that's not routed correctly. Never had this happen before.

I am new to Yotatech and just had the engine out of my 93 p/u, when i put it back in, i tryed to engage 4WD, but nothing happened, no light or front drive. I also had some lines on the plennum i didn't think were right. I needed info i couldn't find in a manual and ^VOODOO^'s pics str8ened everything out. Runs better and i have 4WD too! Thanks much, this place rules!

A regular haynes manual has the diagrams, either in the back, or in the emissions section.

In 4 and 5, shouldn't 17 and 16 be reversed? I only say this as one port one the plenum is larger (5 in your pic) than the second one (4 in your pic)and one of each to match the port on the ac speed controller.
