1990 2wd 3VZE auto starter removal help needed

Hey guys, I can't get the starter out! It seems to be hitting the torsion bar & sway bar. I pulled my replacement out of a 3VZE 4wd but I can't get the one out of my truck. Are there any tips to this?

90 2wd 3VZE automatic.

Thanks guys. Kinda urgent as I need the truck for work tomorrow.

I've done this a couple of times on an '89. I ended up unbolting the sway bar so it could be moved out of the way and also unbolting the trans cooler pipes from the brackets between the trans and the radiator. This allowed the pipes to move a little, providing a little more clearance. The last thing I did was jack the trans up an inch or so with a piece of wood on the trans pan.

Together, these things gave me the room to get the bastage out. A real pain to do.

Good luck and I hope you get it out easier than I did.

Thanks bugs, I ended up finishing it before I read your reply but you were right on the money! Thanks for the good info.

I had to remove one of the trans cooling lines from the transmission & jack it up a bit as well, I then slid the starter back against the frame rail until it finally came out. What a pain in the rear! The 4WD truck that it came off of had a access plate on the inner fender that I removed it from (much easier)

I can say for sure that 2WD & 4WD starters are interchangeable!
