1989 Engine Knock

I have a 1989 V6 4 runner with a knock. It knocks when in idle, along with gear. When I speed up knocking gets faster/louder. When I push clutch knocking goes away. Any ideas about what the problem could be and how to fix this. Please help me. I am 17 and it is my father's truck. He will be back from baghdad in 1 1/2 months, so need to fix before then.

You said it stops when you push the clutch in, so it could be a bad clutch or possibly a loose flywheel. You will need to pull the transmission to figure out what the problem is.

It sounds almost like a radeling. Like if you have a golf ball inside a blender.

have someone push and release the clutch while you r under the truck listening . With e brake on Look at all external components of the clutch before you pull tranny . There is a boot on the tranny you can move to get a look at the inner workings . Does your pops know that your driving his truck does he know its broken you should tell him before you fix it

Good luck and keep us informed

yeah he knows I'm driving it and it has always been "broken" in some way. No e Brake, 4wd locked up, pops out of 1st, rear window won't go down, leaks oil, radio is shot, a few other things. As far as this kinda broken no. Our neighbor is a mechanic I am going to try to get him to look at it today. I am only at auto tech as old red (truck name) will teach me. Ever time something breaks I usually learn how to fix it so this is a fix time for me with this kinda problem.
