1989 3VZE Rev limiter/sluggish
Hi Everyone,
I have a 1989 Toyota tube buggy with the 3VZE that Im having issues with. If i try to WOT in gear or in neutral the truck caps off without hitting rev limiter. Additioinally, I drove it a few weekends ago on the street up in nevada (trailered only rig 99% of the time) and with both cases in high gear It felt sluggish and wouldnt go past 2nd or 3rd gear on a slight incline. Im running 4.88's and 38's so it shouldnt be that horrible. I eventually had to put one of my cases in low range just to get some pep but was capped to 3rd gear since 4th gear would make it too sluggish.
This was never an issue when I first purchased the vehicle and it started out of nowhere.
Here are the things I've done so far to diagnose and I'm hoping somebody can chime into something I may be missing. At this point I'm leaning towards a faulty ECU.
-Replaced plugs/cap/rotor/wires
-Compression test (all cylinders good)
-Fuel pressure check above 40PSI idle and WOT
-Brand new fuel system up to fuel rail
-Only muffler exhaust (removed to ensure it wasn't clogged)
-TPS Adjustment and swapped with another TPS to ensure it wasnt faulty
-AFM test within spec and replaced with another AFM just to make sure
-Air Filter cleaned and even removed to make sure it wasnt the problem
-Checked MIL light and found only code for starter (im running push start with a wire directly from the solenoid)
-MIL checked at WOT showed an additional code (51) but reading is unrelated to my issue
-Set timing to spec
-Swapped EFI relay with a spare (why not doesnt hurt to check)
-Oil pressure and level is good
-Coolant temp is normal operating
-Checked all fuses and relays
-Checked what vacuum hoses I still had to make sure there wasnt a leak (most are capped off prior to this issue from starting)
I may have forgot to list some things but if you have an idea i will let you know if ive checked that or not.
Thanks in advance!
