I want to rebuild my 87 pickup. Its a 2.4L auto with a carburetor. Right now it needs the crankshaft pulleys replaced. It still runs but doesnt hold any oil. The oilpan needs to be re-sealed and I need to replace the gaskets in the oil and fuel pump. It was a gift and I would like to hold onto it as it has lasted me almost 6 years now. I got it at 130,000 miles and put another 18,000 on it before these problems sprang up. I want to put a bigger engine in it and I know that the model holds a V6 w/twin turbo. Im not looking to go that far but, I have no idea where to even start. I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction. Its going to need a fairly big overhaul in the front end and I want to keep it as my project car.

Maybe start with buying a chilton's manual and reading it and become somewhat familiar with what you really have. After you do that, "SEARCH" for the "FSM" or "Field Service Manual" for your truck and read that too. After that, you can start trying to figure out what's really wrong and we will be really able to help you.

But in the mean time, umm.. okay.
The T100 didn't exist in 87, and there never was a t1000
You only have one crankshaft pulley
The fuel pump gaskets are easy to replace and you can get them at nearly any auto parts store
The oil pump gasket is an o-ring that runs around the pump cover, which bolts to the timing chain cover but you have to take the crankshaft pulley off to get to...

I did not know oil had gaskets... huh i guess you learn something everyday. Please try that one again man. Grab a manual as abecedarian said and get more aquainted with what you want to do. We can't help if we don't know what you're talkin about bud.
