1986 pickup 4x4-Throw out bearing
Hey All,
I have a 4th generation Toyota Pick-up Truck 4x4 (1986) and am doing a full engine rebuild. Right now I'm stuck on a clutch issue due to a discrepancy between the throw-out bearings. I have a question about the throw-out bearings from the 4 generations trucks to the 5th generation.
I ordered a clutch kit for a 4th generation model from LCE, but noticed the throw-out bearing was different from the one I pulled out of the truck. I saw the one I pulled out was a 5th generation piece. I did some research and the one I pulled out was the single unit where the bearing and the hub are already together from the factory. The one I got in the kit (4th gen) was just a bearing and would need to be pressed into a hub which I don't have.
I am able to get the same throw-out bearing I took off the truck (5th gen) from the local parts store but I'm curious if that would cause an issue with the pressure plate contact points. When you lay the bearings face-to-face they look like they have the same contact area. The two pressure plates side by side look like the bearings would contact at just about the same place, but it's hard to be sure.
Does anyone have any history with this? I'm tempted to install it with a single unit bearing instead of seeking out a hub. I'm in a bit of a bind to get my truck back on the roads but don't want to have to pull it apart again later down the road. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Edited this to clarify/share more info.

hey, thanks for taking the time to read my post. I've updated it to share more detail. I don't have a hub - the piece I pulled out is a 5th gen bearing (I did some research and they changed it to a single piece - I think after 1989. So I'm trying to decide if the setup is similar enough that the single unit bearing will work w/ the new pressure plate I have that I just got w this 4th gen kit I got from LCE.
thanks again - tbone

I have read in other places that people think this is an "upgrade". I was never convinced so I bought the hub for mine. Again, this is one of those things where I think of how much I want to separate the engine and the tranny again, versus how much I'd like to spend an extra day and some bucks to make sure it's right. I would call LCE or 22reperformance and ask their opinions. You probably already know that LCE is going to tell you to just run it, and you also probably already know that 22re is going to tell you to run all stock all the time. Maybe one of them will be more convincing than the other though.
