I bought an 86 4x4 and it had been converted to a manual. The reverse lights and the 4x4 green indicator on the cluster DO NOT WORK. I need to get the 4x4 green cluster light working and the reverse lights working. I am not sure if the reverse lights are on a relay? If so where is that relay. Or better yet what wire and where is it in ordered to splice a jumper wire to get the reverse to work. I know the wire at the reverse lights is a red with a blue stripe. I have back probed and I cannot find the wire coming from the harness up front. And the 4x4 engage light info would be helpful as well. Any help would be great.

 

No relays. On the M/T those wires/connectors for backup and 4wd indicator ride up in the tunnel just off the firewall. Not easy to see, which is why they often get damaged(ripped out) when someone drops the trans and forgets to unplug. Looking at my 87 EWD the A/T get routed along that same location. The connectors are different between the two though.

 

i ended up running a wire from the tranny switch to a keyed wire. The other wire on the switch I wired to the wire at the back of the truck that runs the reverse lights. WAY too complicated to find the correct reverse wire in the loom. Hopefully this helps someone down the line should this question come up.
