I am looking to get wheel spacers on my rig for a wider stance in the front. I've heard both good and bad things about them.

Does anyone know the true facts about them? Pro's & Con's please.

 

i run 1.5" on the front of my 3rd gen runner for clearance purposes only. i could probably gotten away with 1"...but i scored a good deal on em. they've been great, no issues or wobbling. good balancing and proper alignment are key as well. buy the quality ones. i wouldnt do it for cosmetic reasons though...if you want a wider stance...get offset wheels.

 

X2...only get them if you need to clear a wider tire!

 

My allignment is sorta off, I go to the right quite a bit. Would spacers increase the problem? Why shouldn't I get them for cosmetic reasons? What don't you like about them?

 

i was searching the same issue last day ,if you get some from marlincrawler or wabfaboffroad you will get quality you are looking for,other than that ,..i wouldnt even think about other than that cause youll get just more problems.

 

main issue as far as i am concerned is wobbling or vibrations...as Chief Yota said, get good quality

 

High quality wheel spacers will not cause any problems if properly installed and maintained.

 

Does every truck have hubs? I have a 2wd '91 PU, and my friend said it will put stress on the hubs.
On the other hand, I also heard nothing will go wrong if all the nuts are torqued correctly. Does that mean they just need to be correctly tightened?

Wouldn't they only cause stress on the hubs if they create long arms such as 3" ? 1 - 1.50" wouldnt harm it.

 

As i'm looking for wheel spacers, they say they fit 5.5" of the circular bolt pattern. I'm not sure what to measure. It looks like its only 4.5" in this picture.

You have a (5) lug wheel on 4.5" bolt circle...not a (6) lug wheel on 5.5" bolt circle, which is what most Toyota wheel spacers are.

 

I have a 2001 4runner. The owner before me installed 285/70/R17 tires on 17X8 wheels with 5" of backspacing and 12mm of offset. Currently the front tires rub on the frame rails at full stop. I've been told that wheel spacers will help this. What thickness of spacers are recommended? Do I buy spacers for just the front, or should I also match the width in the back? I'm also assuming a body lift is necessary. Is this true?

So... how about my issues listed above? At this point I will go with your spacers, Wab. I just need to know how much space I need and if I need them for both the front and back.

 

I got 1/2 on mine to stick my muds out further and sling dirt everywhere, I just did it to cover my truck in mud so I dont know any of the other concerns, I havent had any problems I have just heard anything over an inch can get dangerous but I know people that run them. Just get a better backspaced wheel if you can.

 

What have you heard the dangers are of larger than 1" spacers? How much backspacing should I be looking for in a wheel?

 

Get enough width to clear whatever you are hitting.

It just puts the wheel farther from the anchor point if you will, say your running a 33x12.50 on a steel wheel thats a lot of weight to be floating an extra inch and a half away from the assembly at 75 mile per hour. I have just never heard anyone recommend them, I was told not to use my .5'' ones with my 33s even

 

I drove 25 miles a day at speeds over 65+ mph for over 18 months in my 85 4Runner on 35s and 37s with 1.5" wheel spacers with no problems whatsoever.

Countless Toyota owners use this combination with no problems.

Installation and quality of product are key.
