wont idle

85 22r wont idle warm or cold... only does it sometimes, seems to be when its really cold. it used to surge like a vacuum leak but fixed itself now this. its not the idle screw because sometimes its fine. new tune up, lucas fuel treatment, new gas. other than having to keep it running at red lights it drives fine. aaargh

well it runs fine but when it returns to idle speed from any sort of accelleration or rev it will just die... before this problem it would start first crank all the time and have no trouble idling but now it takes a while of cranking... probly about ten seconds then it starts and just idles really low kinda like the idle needs to be bumped up but thats not it... and it will just die. you can keep it running with the gas but no matter how high the idle is set it just wont stay running.

Check the EGR with a vacuum gun to make sure it's not stuck open and verify that the brake booster vacuum line is connected and not broken. Really sounds like a vacuum leak.

i thought vaccum leak first too and checked and rechecked everything... i screwed around with the egr and still nothing i even borrowed one off my other truck and it does the same thing. i think its in the carb but i am not 100 percent. its the only thing i havent changed. but i did take it all apart and clean it all out and checked the floats and the jet. is there any common problems with these carbs that i am unaware of?
