Very Odd power loss problem

ok so tonight i was headed home cruisin about 55 or so, well i noticed the truck ('85 22RE) kinda intermittently slowin down and then pickin back up. kinda like when a stong wind hits you head on. well about a mile later the truck really starts to slow and gradually gets worse. luckily i was only about 5 or 6 miles from my house cuz it would not go faster than about 10 mph. it would bog down and die out with any throttle. anyways, i get home check for any thing loose under the hood; nothin. get back in the truck, turn the heater on and it dies. crank it back up and its as if nothing ever happened. I would't say it runs good but like it did before all this tonight. any ideas on this strange situation?

sorry for the novel, just wanted to completely explain the siuation.

Sounds like a plugged fuel filter or possibly a fuel pump going out.
