Used trany worth?

A freind of mine just popped his trany in his 85 pickup. (22RE Auto 4x4)
What should he be looking to pay for one? He said he can get one off eBay for $1050 with some "goodies" in it but was wondering what a used one would be worth, say around 150xxx miles in good working order? Any other ideas or links for some good trany options? Thanks all. His use will mostlly be DD with the occasional off road use up steep hills and threw lots-o-mud. No rock crawling.

My truck is being converted from automatic to manual and i found a good used tranny and transfer case for 250.00, but if you want just the transmission only, you should be able to find one for a little less.

for not much more he could get a bullet proof Marlin rebuilt trans

http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/tra...ansmission.htm

I've been flogging on my Marlin HD W56 trans with a 7MGE Supra motor (200+hp) bolted on the front of it for the last 2 years and towed a 3,500 lb trailer from the east coast to the west coast with no problems - well worth id

if you want a stock tranny that will hold up to the abuse of muddin and all that...get the 22RET R151F turbo tranny...its a 5 speed though..idk if ur friend can drive a 5 spd or not..but its definately the strongest STOCK tranny..junkyards around here are gettin rid of em for about $450 to $550 a pop..and there is only one in the tri city area around me right now...and its 10 miles away and the yard wants $500 for it..and they dont even know if it works properly..or how many miles it has on it..B.S if ya ask me

Yea he can drive a stick just wants a simple pull and put back in. Quick and easy with no modifications.

I thought for that you would need the transfer case to go with it because it has a different output shaft spline count

You would. The output of the R151 is 23 spline. The turbo t-cases have 23 spline inputs. He would have to either get the turbo t-case with it or upgrade the current t-case from 21 to 23 spline input. Marlin sells the 23 spline input.
