tryin to keep one cool

I've got an 84 w/a freshly rebuilt 22r, it's a trail rig (not many rocks in central ga) so mud and hills is about all it sees. I have removed the flex fan and replaced it w/ twin 9in elec. fans on a new stock rad. I also used a hd thermostat that I drilled about 4 1/8 bypass holes in the flange. That setup works fine most of the time but on hot days, quite a few 100 plus days down this way w/ about a 120% humidity, so it's hot to say the least. It seems to have a little trouble keeping up. some feed back would be nice. plus anyone else on this board from ga the central to atl region contact me always lookin for someone to ride with. I know of a few places to have some off road fun.

And before anyone chimes in I did do a search first.

Thanks
Greg

I had this exact same experience with electric fans. They just couldn't keep up. Especially on hot days during a long uphill grade. This could even be at speed on the freeway and it would slowly but surely overheat. I switched back to the stock setup - stock fan with fan shroud and fan clutch. Never had anymore overheating problems.

^^ what he said, the electric fans have trouble keeping up in very hot weather, i would recomend switching back to the stock fan.

On my truck I put in a radiator for a 86 22ret. This with a 14in procomp fan that is moveing 2000cfm. I used the stock shroud all though modifide(sp). What I did was cut a piece of 22ga to fit inside the shruod and filled it up with expanding foam to make the thin sheet steel ridged. the next day I cut all the extra foam away and ran 1/4 bolts through it. I used black rtv to seal the foam and cut out the opening for the fan. this way the fan has to pull air through the whole radiator not just a small 14in part of it. hope this helps.

i got an alumium radiator from napa a few months ago it costs about $250 but was worth every cent...after a long day of wheeling i can shut my truck off, open the hood and place my hand in the middle of the radiator cuase it stays cool...truck runs slightly cooler than stcok and i've yet to come even close to over heating it
