Transmission Dipstick on 1984 SR5

I was just looking for my transmission dipstick (I'm not a dipstick) and I have not been able to find it any advice? Does it go under the shifter handle and I found nothing against the firewall.

maybe you could also put your question in the 86-95 IFS section , I dont know where it is on the auto-trans my 85 is a w56 5speed and there is know dipstick on the w56

I don't believe the w56 series used a dipstick. You can check your fill plug, if there is fluid around the bolt you are solid. If you are still concerned you could pump in a little and wait for it to overflow.
