Trans tunnel notched back w/ a 2" square ?

Just bought a Dolphin on a 85 1 ton chassis and redoing the carpet from the orginal orange shag, I found a 2" square notch cut out of the back of the factory shifter cut hole. Any suggests why? Makes no sense to me. The shifter sits at the rear of the original factory hole. Might the engine have been moved back for some reason? It's a 22RE and 5 speed. Might it have been covertedfrom an Auto? There's a light above the radio that says "Overdrive" and it's connected there, but doesn't light up in 5th.

Welcome!

There is a good chance that there used to be the A43D automatic transmission in the Dolphin and was replaced with a 5-speed manual.

The "Overdrive Off" light is for the automatic transmission to let you know that you switched the overdrive gear off, as you were supposed to leave the overdrive on for most driving for the regular pickups (although with as heavy of a load as an RV, I would suspect the driver would leave the overdrive off most of the time).

Does this RV have the ID plate in the engine bay? If so, you can see what the original transmission was from the transmission code using the picture below:
