timing chain question, please help

Hey, I have been rebuilding a 22r motor and when i put the new timing chain on from engnbldr it seems too tight. I had to use an adjustable clamp to squeze the chain together to put on the passenger side guide and the tensioner and now the chain has no slack what soever but they are on. Is there a chance I could have the wrong chain? I also rebuilt one about 2 months ago but that one blew a rod from the #1 cylinder and when i tore it back apart the plastic passenger side guide was completely worn out as well as the tensioner when it had the same "to tight" feeling. I could have been cause that motor ĊĊĊĊed up or maybe that chain really is wrong? it is the same chain i am using in this motor by the way.

thanks

what year is the engine, from 84 to 85 toyota changed the size of the block, 84 and older 22r's are taller and 85 and up are shorter blocks.

anyone know how many links are in the chain for a 85 or newer 22r? mine has 48 but it feels tight.. you think it will just stretch? i had it in a motor that blew up after about a week due to a rod cap being backwards and it ate through the passenger plastic dampner and the tensioner. any imput?
