Stripped nut on locking hub stud
i was putting the auto-locking hub (have manual hubs coming) back on after knuckle rebuild and I set the torque setting wrong on my wrench and now the nut just spins on the stud against the cone washer. I can't get it to back out. There isn't a lot of room between the nut and hub so I don't think a nut breaker will fit back there. I'm looking for options to get it off since my manual hubs should arrive any day. It won't back off the stud and I tried pulling with pliers while turning. What can be used to extract the nut? Once extracted, how do I fix the stud as I'm assuming the threads are toast. Buy a used hub and forget fixing it? Repair the existing threads and use a smaller nut? I'm not sure a die is going to work between the other studs.

double nutting it does not work too well when you've torqued the original one on too tight and the stud is stripped. The double nut approach requires both nuts to be able to grip the stud and lock together. I ended up having to take a dremel to the nut and cut it off the stud and then used vice grips to get the stud out.
