starter burnout

My brother was driving my truck today and somehow managed to get it started with the wrong key. While he was driving the starter failed to disengage and got burned up. I'm not sure if the wrong key is related, as that is how I lost my last starter, about 9 months ago. The ignition switch seemed to function fine afterwards. So I replaced the starter today, and now the weird part. The starter seems to want to start as soon as I hook up the battery. I can hear the starter clicking, but it doesn't seem to have enough juice to turn the engine over. This happens when the ignition switch is off, the key is out, and even when the ignition wire is disconnected from the starter! Any ideas on this one? The only thing I can think of is a defective starter. I am stumped. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Well there is a click from the ignition i think whenever u connect the battery maybe thats what your hearing. might want to go get a new ignition switch. we got one for our supra from autozone for like 30 bucks. its just screws onto the back of the key assembly
