sm465 trans?

I found a guy selling a sm465 trans. mated to a toyota L/C 4 spd. transfer case...he claims no mods to the floorboards or dash, he is throwing in a bellhousing, slave cyl. brkt. and flywheel. My question is: what is the advantage of doing this? is it the granny low first gear and if so would the truck be streetalbe with 3 spd. 22r and 456 gears in the axles? the guy wants 550.00 for this set up, is this a waste of time or a good way to go? was planning on going with the twin transfer case setup but keeping all my options open.

Its not going to be a bolt in affair for your 4Runner. It may very well be for landcruisers, but certainly not 4Runners. Add to it that the tcase outputs are offset, and its not really worth it.

And you'll lose overdrive. That third gear is your direct drive. Frankly there's really nothing special about that transmission. You figure half of the Chevy 4x4 trucks and Blazers between 69 and 75 had em. THat and they have SO MUCH throw its crazy.
