sleeve on oil pump spline

On the 84 22r motors i guess there is a sleeve that goes on that splined piece that slides onto the crank that spins the oil pump so i ordered one but i didnt see one when i took off the old pump so i dont knwo what to do?? Any other things i need to check or do while i have a close to bare block in my truck before i put it back together?

That sounds like a sleeve you would put on there if there was a groove in the shaft from the seal. Has there been oil leaking from that area?

no... but i figured it out there is a pressed on sleeve that goes around the harmonice balncer pulley assembly thing. I had a lot of clean up to do to the engine so i should be buttoning this engine up in the next day or 2

That is the oil pump drive spline. On the inside, are the slotted key style keepers (i call them chuck keys?) and the outer section is splined, to drive the oil pump. It also works as a spacer for the harmonic balancer. Without that piece, you have no oil pressure.
