Just wondering if new shocks would be needed when putting a small lift (such as the OME springs) on an 84 to get rid of the saggy originals. Ive got a set of Rancho 5000s on there now and theyre still pretty decent. Would anything other than springs and bushings be needed for this setup? Rocky road has the OME springs for about $86 each and im thinking this may be a good upgrade in the future.

 

i was thinking about buying the same springs form that place also(just for th front for now though). I doubt you need new shocks. only thing i could see might happen is on full droop the shocks might limit the travel

 

Put the lift on and try the old shocks. If they limit droop too much, then new ones could be installed. All depends on how long the existing ones are. If they are a little longer than needed for the stock setup, they may be fine with the lift. You can also space down the upper mount up front for a little more droop.

The shocks that are in there now are Rancho RS 5000s. Not sure of the specific part no, but they are stock length replacements. I just wasnt sure if I would run into problems with the shocks trying to over extend if the axle can droop more.

One simple check you could do now is to lift each axle off the ground and measure how much extension you have on each shock and thus find out how much (if any) additional extension length is left.

 

You shouldn't need new shocks. I ran the stock ones with a 2.5" Daystar spacer and never had any issues. There should be enough travel.
