Left the house on Sunday the 1st, did some work, got back home today, totaled about 2600 miles on the engine. Ran perfect the entire time. Averaged about 18-19 mpg at 75-85 mph. Not bad considering the 22R wouldn't go that fast but still managed 15mpg....

And she has now been painted by a real painter. Went with FJ40 Dune Biege from mid-late 70s. Kinda copied Toyospearo in regards to color selection. I have a 40 that will get the same color. Always been one of my favorite colors.

Did Bedliner in the bed and on the lower portion of the truck to protect from rock chips and such. I found out this truck had been painted twice before. Factory, and two additional re-paints. My guy took it down to the metal and did a great job. I went with a matte finish similar to a ratrod paint job. The clear has a flattening agent to dull it down so it's not so glossy.

I didn't do all the glass removal and weatherstripping removal, but it turned out very nice. I had a new windshield installed while it was at the body shop. As soon as I can get my camera out and snap some pics I will upload them, so be patient...

And Wabbit, you know it happened.....

Thank you for the compliments. As far as the E-codes, it's one of the best things I have done on this truck. I went as far as putting on LED spots to assist the 6054s that were stock. Helpful, but with E-codes, not even necessary. I also did the upgraded harness and 110/80 bulbs to get good power and ground and plenty of light...

I just read through your thread here. That's a sweet truck that you've got there. I think that you have some similar taste as me. I'm interested in about a 4" lift with 33x10.5 BFG's. I'm thinking that I want ATs even though the MTs you've got look way cooler. I guess I'm not sure how significantly louder the MTs are and how much worse the tread-life is. That'll all take a little saving, though. I have tons of maintenance stuff to check into before I start modifying things. Here's something crazy: my truck is bone stock except a rebuilt motor and 5.29 gears (judging from the fact that my speedo says 90 when I'm doing 70 on 31's).

Nice to hear that you're close by. Looks like you know what you're doing.

Thanks Cabot. It's been a lot of work, and a lot more to go. Bumpers next, after I put in the 4.88 diffs I got from Pullapart. Then maybe I can get wheels and tires(35s). As far as tread life and noise, I love the KM2s. They are quiet to me, since I hear wind noise more than the tires. And tread life has been amazing. I travel for work, so I have put about 25-30k miles on these and they still look new. I don't know actual tread depth to compare to a new set, but if we bump into each other, you can see and hear for yourself. Glad to have ya aboard. Anything I can do to help, just let me know! (PM me..... Haha)

And you have to be doing 4K RPMs at 70mph with 5.29s.... Geez... Lol

Well, updating the thread....

I got the ARB front bumper from Wabbit, also had him do a 4" rear lift to get rid of the blocks, longer shackles in front to help level it, Bilsteins all around, re-did the front bearings, and today finished up rear bearings and factory 4.88 third I had in storage. The rear bearings were toast and growling, and I had some new Timkens sitting in a box, so in they went. New seals of course.

With the 4.88s, its a lot funner to drive. You can really feel the difference of the 3RZ now. And no more growling bearing....

I also had my rear d-shaft balanced and slip joint section replaced. Threw a new u-joint in the rear most joint.

Now to gut the front again for the other 4.88 third I have. Maybe Longfields at the same time...?

And as a fair warning, if any newbs think about doing rear bearings, don't... Remove the axles and let someone else press them on and off. After a failed attempt, and a demolished backing plate, I had to find a replacement. No body had one... So I was forced to spend another $200 on a complete rear diff from a '93 Runner. Different e-brake set-up, but the brakes are the same. Since I ran out of time/daylight, I had to just swap the backing plate/axle assembly. Luckily the new(used/old) bearing isn't growling. So it will be fine until the Marlin(Nachi) bearings come this week. I also found the '93 Runner axle itself to be 1/4" longer. Still fit fine, so I don't know where the difference is. Existing rear diff assembly is from an '89 Runner(leaf sring mount), whereas the axle is from a coil mount rear. Any thoughts?

Got new shoes today. 315/75R16 Toyo Open Country MT on 16x8 MT Classic III Black. These Toyos are awesome! Tire shop talked me into balance beads and I agreed since I didn't want sticky weights. They work great. No vibrations at any speed up to 80mph. They aren't just air soft beads or BBs, they're made for internal balancing.

As far as noise, they are quiet up to about 45mph, after that they "whir" a bit. About the same as the BFG KM2s. I still hear radio and exhaust over tires easily.
