New exhaust system
So, here I am again... Im sure I'll be spending quite a bit of time on this site for the foreseeable future.
Need a new exhaust system as mine is rusting out and I have leaks in my manifold and pipes. I have a few questions... Can I just use a header without a manifold? Is there a kit i can buy that has everything? What are tue tubes coming out of the manifold flange? Any tips or tricks for leaks and rusted bolts? Thanks again guys.

Typically headers act as your exhaust manifold. However the initial toyota design is actually fairly good. If yours is gone then its obviously time to replace it. Exhaust systems are always debated on whats better/worse, does it just sound better or does it actually make more power, and then there is the whole other aspect of what bards to use.
The general thought is 2-2.24" for pipe diameter is considered good. Any bigger and you seem to loose low rpm power. Removing any actual emissions stuff doesn't seem to make any difference unless those parts are not functioning.
The biggest thing is whats legal in your state/county/city. That seems to be a big variable.
Give is some actual information about your rig.
Year, engine, transmission, drive 4 or 2, gearing, tire size, state you live in, etc.

Is your truck a California Emissions model? It looks like you have a carburetor and and you have an oxygen sensor in the exhaust manifold.
Those tubes attached to the exhaust manifold are part of the Air Suction system for exhaust emissions. It allows fresh air to enter the exhaust to help the catalytic converter do its job. They do not hurt performance.

First, thanks for all the help guys... Its frustrating when you are mechanically inclined, but lack knowledge of the actual engine. I am finding this 22R to be pleasingly simple.
I have a 1985 Toyota pick-up sR5 single cab. It has the 22R rebuilt with webber carb (the rebuild work is questionable). 4x4 and a 4 inch lift kit all around (shocks/suspension). Its up on ranglers 33/12.5/R15 with power steering. It is a straight axle with welded and locked diff. One shop said its stock gears... 4.10? I'm not too sure about that though as it has a tedency to want to peel out in first (especially in dirt) I thought it might be geared... Everything else should be stock... To the best of my knowledge. I can always give the previous owner a hoot. I know I want headers it just makes more sense to me. Currently its a manifold to thrush muffler and thats it. I want to add a high flow cat convert? With headers. I thought about making it straight piped with a glass pack... But the spare is in the way. Im eventually making it a flat bed which will get the tire on top. Thanks for all your help guys. Let me know if im missing anything.
