More Responsive Steering?

Sorry if this question has already been asking somewhere i've searched multiple times and can't fnd anything.

I have an 1985 4runner with TG Hy-steer and a lengthened steering column / boxed in frame done professionally. For some reason my steering is super un-responsive and i can never get the steering wheel aligined straight.

I've tried fixing it many times but nothing really works, any suggestions?

We'll assume it's power steering or it could be manual, which is it ?

By unresponsive do you mean steering input is delayed or non-functional ? Steering wheel alignment is done at the same time toe is set. Have you set your toe-in ?

Its a steering box off an IFS truck, so yes it has power steering. Steering input is delayed and literally to go straight the steering wheel has to be turned 1/4 turn to the right. I have taken the steering wheel off multiple times to correct it which lasts for a few weeks then becomes un-aligined.

ifs trucks came with no power steering to. just so u know. and u should rly take it in to a alignment shop then. something is rly not right. are ur knuckles rebuilt? have u tightened ur steering box? its a 17 and u turn a flat head i believe. helped me before. do u have a steering stabalizer. i dont run high steer yet but many of my buddys do and i have worked on them all. if the steering wheel itself is moving. after driving around. is it itself loose? u can take a shim out of the top n bottom of ur knuckles to tighten them up also. just some info. lemme know!

Sounds like your pitman arm is not centered on the box:

That and it could be the caster angle is off. Too little and you lose the "return-to-center" steering. This is common if you have dropped the front spring hanger.
