Manual Transmission swap ?

Manual Transmission swap ?
I have a 1984 Toyota pu that was made into an RV. Should the original tranny work on a 5,800 # vehicle ? Is there a 1 ton tranny that will swap for the 1/2 ton ? Manual Transmissions.

Assuming 2 wheel drive. Did the truck originally have a manual? 4 speed, 5 speed? There are different transmissions through the years with ratios that varied some. 1/2 ton v 1 ton not that I know of. I think there is a chart that Marlin Crawler has that lists the different transmissions by years and type

Tranny swap
Originally, my rig was a 4 speed manual with 2 wheel drive. It was made in Japan. The firewall tag says it is a W42. I haven't found anything on the tranny to confirm. MC says is should be an L52. I'm being told there are no parts available for the W42. Also, the pics for 1st & 2nd W42 don't look right. I think Midwest told me it should be a W50. Fortunately, it's not broken, yet. Just a little 2nd gear synchro. This has turned into, what have I got & how will I fix it when needed? Any info would be helpful. I was also thinking the tranny might need to be upgraded like my clutch(HD). i.e. it was a half ton that is now at least a 1 ton.

you'd probably be looking at a later model trans, like a w56 version, but it might involve cutting the trans tunnel open a bit more to get the shifter to fit?
there is an r151 that came with the turbo trucks, but that's $$$ if you can find one. https://209yota1.com/products/r151-t...86-1987-turbo/
