lifting my 85, what do i need to look out for

i have an 85 4runner that im goin to put downey 3" lift springs on in the spring. im also getting new shocks but what i am wondering is what else is necessary in the lift ie: high steer kit, new longer brake lines, longer mounts for sway bar...? also any problems anybody has run into doing this. im not lookin to do anything crazy, just want to give my frunner a little more clearance. thanks for your info!!!

There isn't anything really else to cover with this lift. The Downey springs come with brake line relocaters and longer sway bar end links. Even with their 3 inch lift you still don't have to worry about driveline angles, driveshaft length or steering geometry.

Hows your shocks? If they are ancient or weak, change them with the springs and you will really notice the improvement.

I went with the Rubicon shackles front and rear for my trucks.

the only problems I have run into was rust. If you can't ramove any of the bolts holding your springs to the truck you might have to cut and replace them. If you have any rust problems I suggest soaking them overnight (or more) with your favorite aresol penetrating spray before you attempt to loosen anything.

thanks for the responses! and no i dont have any rust... i was fortunate enough to pick up my buddies dads 4runner that he has owned since new and owned in the northwest (i hate dealing with rust). funny enough desertcamper your frunner is the only other red and white one ive seen (painted my canopy black though, couldnt stand the white myself) and yeah i plan on getting new shocks through downey.
unfortunately i might have to put my lift on hold, i tried driving through oregon yesterday and the timing chain went out on the rebuilt motor i put in the truck no more than 4000 miles ago. f%#*ing bastards! i havent been separated from my truck more than 24 hours and i wonder what shes doin already. i love yoters!

Yeah, love 'em too.

My truck came with a black topper. I hated it. It just gets way too hot.
This is my 3rd 4Runner. Had an '84 dark blue with a black top, an '85 white with a white top and this red '85.
After rolling this one and ruining the original top, I found a white one still attached at a junkyard. There was a red one, loose too, but I wanted to keep cool with white.
