Lifting the 85
I've got some tax money coming in
So I've been considering a lift for my 85. I don't want anything too extreme, 3-4 inches max. I've been looking at an OME lift for the truck, based on the belief that it will ride better than other lifts.
My question is, from anyone that has this lift, Does it ride better, and if so, is it worth the extra price?
I won't be rock crawling (not much of that around here) I use this truck mainly for trail riding (aka running through the hunting woods at higher than reccomended rates of speed) and mudding.
The only requirement I have for a lift is no blocks, so if anyone has reccomendations, my ears are open.

Depends on tires you want to run.
I've had OME on Barney and it didn't ride as good as the TG stuff I had on my other ext cab Weasel.
Lots of tweaks you can do to it to get high steer at the same time but its not all bolt on. The tweaks, price and ride quality, you can do the TG lift just as cheap if you can weld.

Well I cannot weld, plan on learning eventually. But at the moment I don't even own a welder. I could get a local shop to do the welding, but I'm not sure how much they would charge/ which ones would work on a street driven vehicle's suspension.
I'll probably run 33/11.50 Mud tires on my truck once lifted.

I'd go 35's if I can find some for a decent price. I hate hate hate body lifts, and I need to replace my leaf springs anyway because the fronts are at a negative arch and the backs are flat.

Well don't I feel stupid for complaining about the 1 inch of bump stop clearance now
On a serious note, I don't want to go much over 33's because of regearing cost and having to upgrade the axles. I know some people here running stock running gear on 37's, but I have bad luck with breaking stuff that other people get by with.

Here's my 85 with 4" pro comp lift. It rides a little rough but at the same time is stiff enough to take corners as fast as I would in a regular vehicle (when on the 33" All-terrains). Plenty of flex on the trail too. (The truck already had 2" body lift and welded sliders about 1" from bottom of the cab, otherwise I would have removed the body lift) So that makes for about 6" of lift total. It looks perfect with 35x12.5 but when I put on 33x10.5 on with stock alloys, it looks a little tall & dorky with the flares.
and a flex pic of course:

Ironman 4x4 lift kit
Another option not many people know about is the ironman 4x4 2" lift kit. I just installed it on my 85 4runner and am very happy with it. The kit included front and rear leaf springs, all 4 shocks, bushings and u bolts. It seemed to lift the truck more than 2", but I was replacing 28 year old springs. Right know I am running 32-11.5-15 tires and have plenty of clearance.

Where did you get the kit at ncjeyota? The only place in the US I can find that sells them says that they don't make it for my year pickup.

I got the kit from sierraexpeditions.com. I have a 85 4runner so I don't know if the leafs and shocks are different lengths, than on a 85 pickup. Im just checked their website and they have the springs, shocks, bushings, ubolts, etc for the 79-85 hilux/pickup. I was very happy with their customer service, low shipping charge, and prompt shipping.
