Junkyard frankenstein alternator.

I finally got another 4runner after not having one for a few years. I got an 85 that needs love. It's a southern truck , so no rust!

The alternator was bathing in power steering fluid and decided to take a dive. I didn't want to spend ~$100 on a rebuilt one, so I cruised the local Pick n Pull. Toyota trucks are non-existant there, so I looked for something close that I could make work.

After a bit of trial and error, I found that an alternator from an 89 Acord LXI is the same case as our 85+. The pully is differant, but the shaft is the same diameter. The voltage regulator is a 4 wire, but I changed it to the three wire regulator from another one I had. It only takes 4 small bolts and 5 screws to change.

I found a car with a very oily engine and a shiny alternator. It still had the rebuild sticker on it. So I got a rebuilt alternator for $17.00 and a little work.

I might do a wright up when I do a spare soon.
