Issues Starting

Hello everyone, I like to work on a 84 toyota pick up 4wd and have stumbled upon this site many times for help so I decided to create an account. I am having an issue with the truck where sometimes it starts but other times it does not due to a dead battery. There are other times when even if the battery is good it has issues starting like if it's not getting fuel or something. It is a 22r with an Amazon carburetor resembling an Aisin original carburetor. Can the carburetor be the issue? Should I have chosen a Weber 32/36 instead? By the way the EGR is not working due to a missing piece that connects on the intake but the rest of it is there and the hose that connect to the carburetor are also not there.

Good morning and welcome, I haven’t had a carbed vehicle for quite some time so others that have more knowledge on this I’m sure will chime in BUT some pics of the EGR and tube in question may help others troubleshoot. Maybe the type of carb off of amazon will help too. So will it just turn over until the battery can’t turn over anymore?
Have you made sure gas is getting to the carb??

I will try and get a picture. But yes, it will turn over for 3 or 4 times before the battery goes out and even if it turns over it still does not start. Fuel is getting to the carburetor because there are times when it starts on first try or when pressing the gas pedal. Usually it happens when it starts at first try but then if turned off for some time like 30 min it turns over but does not start and the battery goes out.

I have been running a Weber 32/36 and the 38 Outlaw for 15 years or more. I disconnected the EGR and installed a block off plate. I have the bare minimum necessary to make the Weber work. Everything else is capped, removed or blocked off. It runs great!!

Do you think I should do an EGR delete?
