Inspecting used head, 22re
So I know alot of people will tell me to go to engnbldr and get a new head or take mine to a machine shop, but that is not an option. I would love to but I am kinda between jobs, money is very tight, this truck is a beater and I just need it back on the road so I dont have to take the city bus to job interviews and what not.
Anyways, I have a 22re that had a lot of clackety clack in the top end. Changed the timing set and worked on a lot of other stuff. See thread titled(problematic 22re) if you want. When I pulled the head the #2 cylinder and valves had alot of carbon buildup. Leaky valve seal? I don't know, I'm a noob. Anyways, I just bought a good used head from dirtyboy, should be here tomorrow. Before install, what should I do and what can be done short of taking it to a machine shop or spending a bunch of money? My gasket set came with valve stem seals. Should I change those out, or can I without taking too much apart. I have never worked on a head before. Can I turn it over somehow to ensure the valves are seating? Clean it up? Carb cleaner? Any advice would be appreciated other than go spend $300 on a new head.
