Help me figure out my 4x4 situation

So I broke something in my front axle wheeling up a pretty steep rocky hill. It just popped while bouncing around and made some nasty grinding noises with the hubs locked. The next day I lifted the front tires off the ground and spun the tires with the hubs locked. The driver's side seemed to be working and didn't seem to be broken. The passenger side when I rolled the tire backwards was grinding and popping. I'm trying to figure out what the problem is so I can order the right parts and get it fixed instead of taking it apart and letting my truck sit while I figure out what's wrong, then wait for the part to be shipped but I might have to anyways.
