guaging interest in my truck, detroit area
i'm thinking about selling my truck and just wanted to see if anyone would be interested in it. also, even if you're not interested in it, tell me how much you think i should sell it for on the side of the road. i'll post pictures later cuz our digital camera is in my wife's purse and she's not home from work yet.
the basics: 1989 4runner dlx, 4 cyl 22re, 5 speed trans, red. it is a super solid truck, great offroader, i've never had a problem with it. my friends all offroad with chevys or fords or dodges, and they've all gotten stuck. i've actually pulled a few of them out.
the good: it runs and drives great. i would never hesitate to drive this anywhere. i just replaced the rear brake shoes and rear brake cylinder less than 1000 miles ago. it has a brush guard which is rare for 1st gens. the tires are BFG A/T's and have less than 6,000 miles on them. i replaced the timing chain about 10-15k miles ago. the top has been removed several times and it does not leak water. it comes with a full set (front & rear) of wet okoles seat covers. 4wd works flawlessly. it does not leak any oil.
the bad: it burns a little bit of oil (less than 1 qt/3000 miles). the rear window JUST stopped working a few weeks ago. at the same time my dashboard light saying the tailgate was open lit up, so i'm assuming they are related. 1st gear has to be held in gear unless under heavy acceleration (ONLY 1st gear, all other gears are normal). there is a small coolant leak behind the exhaust manifold (assuming head gasket). the coolant does NOT get into the crankcase (oil is still black) nor the cylinders (no exhaust smoke). all this means is that every month or so i have to add coolant. the AC needs recharging (i'm pretty sure it's freon).
the ugly: never been in an accident, so no dents, but it definitely has body rust. it has spent the last 20 years in the rust belt. there is a small chip in the windshield that spiderwebbed no larger than the diameter of a nickel. it has been properly fixed, and hasn't spread any further in the past 3 years.
like i said, this truck is super solid, i'm not looking for much over $14995 (just kidding). this truck would make an AWESOME project truck, winter beater, or just generic offroader as is. i will get some more pictures up soon, but here's some to tide you over in the meantime.
