ahh...nothing like an oil thread.
well, i got a case of castrol (always liked castrol, i'm european and i know they test that stuff on small, high reving import motors) 10w40 and a cpl bosch filters. i looked through the book for viscosity recommendations vs. temp and it looked like for this time of the year this should be the oil for me.
hope it burns a little less (i have no leaks)....honestly though it didn't seem like that much of a diff b/t the 10w30. although, my car did run at lower rpms on the freeway this morning. would tha be the cause?

just run castrol gtx 10w40. 20w50 is just way to thick unless u got a worn out engine with a ton of miles. might want to try a can of restore, i bet it will help the burn off problem and make the engine run better. ive had nothing but good results from the producs(its in the silver can)

royal purple is a one-of-a-kind synthetic oil, it supposed to be the best and from experience i would agree. many tv shows and other people have done comparison tests and the royal purple comes out on top every time. the only thing is that it costs 7 bucks a quart but i still use it. some people have also complained about leaking problems with synthetics but i have never leaked a drop so i love it

I'm running 5w30 Mobil1 synthetic right now but that won't work for your situation. If I were you, I would run 10w40 and add a little Lucas oil stabilzer. I've done this on several toyota and suzuki's over the years that were using a little oil and it worked like a charm. Good luck.

<<<Only GTX oil in the 22R.>>> 150K and no sludge. Not a Spec. The 10-40W is ok. 20-50W is usually too heavy for the street. I don't like the way it runs on heavy oil. Feel's like a 20 ton flywheel swinging around. The starter did not like it at all in mine. I have always been leary about the OHC in the cold weather.

its starting to cool down now... low 50s to high 50s in the morning. my truck is suddenly HARD to start in the morning... which i think is due to the 20w-50 i run in it. the guy that had it before me ran it with low oil for a couple months, and i have a feeling stuff is very worn. if i use anything lower than 20w50, it burns off. i use it along with the engine restore stuff. works like a charm. i use it every oil change. (which right now im doing an oil change every paycheck to try to clean up the engine a little bit... i get the oil for like 99 cents a quart, so yeah i can afford it. i get the filter free. why not? ) my suggestion is to use regular 10w-30 (STAY AWAY FROM PENZOIL i got yelled at by my mechanic when i busted out the penzoil this morning). be oil smart... if its getting into the teens, DONT use heavy oil, or you will be out there every morning with a block heater...
