the trekker was mostly produced in '80 and '81, in 2wd and 4x4 models. never seen pics of a 2wd though. i've heard of some '82 trekkers but the only type of rig i've seen from that year was a trailblazer(similar, but different company).

You sure about that..I know of a dude with a 83 Trekker with a high vin. Mines #37 of 1200 so it would make more sense they were first brought to market in 82? I need to know the truth!

Guys, sorry about the long get back on this thread here, I'm just returning from W.V.....ended up on an epic climb, lightning, rain, run-out gear placements and big whippers. Anyhow, I'm gonna call budbuilt this week. I plan on posting any information I get on his frames.

Update:
I called budbuilt. He said his first frame is shipping out this week to Canada. He couldn't quote me a price yet because of the fluctuating steel market, and stated that his frames should be available around 2 to 3 weeks. I asked about his 3/4 and 1/2 frames and those are in the "works" too. I was told to check out the website as it should soon contain the latest on his yota frames.

I was of the impression that most were 81-82 and a few 83s but not many. (Many is a relative term...)

Here are some articles plucked from the net:
-----------
The 1981 model year saw a vehicle development deal between Toyota and Winnebago (primarily) and two other aftermarket customizers. Toyota was attempting an entre into the SUV market. The vehicles which resulted from this collaboration were the Toyota Trekker, the Toyota Wolverine, and the Toyota Blazer. All 3 emlpoyed the toyota Hi-Lux 4x4 RV cab & chassis and an all fiberglass rear section. There were at least 1500 Trekkers and a much smaller, unknown number of the other two models sold in North America. Research and Development work on the Trekker lead to the development of the Toyota 4Runner (called the Toyota Surf outside north America) released in 1984.
-------------------
1981 saw the first major changes in the Hilux model. A 2.4L 22R motor replaced the previous 20R and could be found connected to a L45 4-speed or a L50 5-speed. Both transmissions contained "top" shifters for the RF1A 21 spline gear driven transfer case. The standard gear ratio used in 1981 was 3.90 and the front end received a new grill and square headlights in place of the previous round lights. 1981 saw the introduction of Trekkers made by Winnebago and Trailblazers by Griffith. These were the predecessors to the 4Runner.

The Trekker was produced in 1981 and 1982, and a limited amount were also produced in 1983. The Trekkers were produced in both 4x4 and 4x2 models. The total production of the Trekker was around 1200. Most were shipped out west, with Colorado being the biggest receiver. Limited amounts were sent east. Roughly 20 of these Trekkers were also sold to Saudi Arabia.

Chad,
We haven't heard back from the guy yet. Stay tuned, I found one for you-maybe- I'll call you later today.
Hmmm...now that's damn good to know that they were offered in 81 and with round headlights. Interesting. Thanks guys, gonna add these clips to the spec pages on my site.
