Fixing the 1st Gen 1985 4runner rear window relays in Australia

This might be common knowledge however it took me a few months to work it out....

The rear window of my 4runner stopped working (from the front or rear key switches), common enough problem, as is the high cost of getting the replacement relay from Toyota $500+.

In the states you fellas can order new 12v relays from radio shack (Who won't post internationally..) This side of the globe though I have had a bit of a nightmare trying to track them down.

The fix is easily enough, pull out the relay box from the left side of the car, behind the front seat belt,

Ordered new relays online from Farnell Australia. Their part number is order code 1387318 that should bring up the Omron G5LE-1-DC12 relays you need. Think they are just under AUS$2 each (you need 4) but you will have to order over 10 bucks if you want to pay with a card over the net....Good time to pick up a desolder tool if you don't have one already. Delivery was quick as, desolder tool arrived next day, the relays came from abroad but still only took a few days to tip up. (They keep stock in US,UK and AUS)

Open the grey 'Relay' box, desolder the four relays and replace with the new ones...

The new relays are a nats cock taller than the old so will need a bit of encouragement to get it back into the box.

Job done

I rebuilt my relay box about a year a go with new relays, even here in the states they want over 400 dollars for that part. No way was i going to pay that kind of money for that relay box. The new relays cost less than 15 dollars including shipping and i had it rebuilt in less than an hour.
