Failed Smog Visual California. Help!

so i just took my 85 EFI in for a smog check and the smog tech failed the visual inspection saying that I tampered with my PCV hose alignments, He also I failed my timing check, saying i'm at 12 Degrees before top dead center.

here's the hose he pointed to saying " you can have this blowing oil into the intake!" as far as i can tell that is the exact hose the FSM says to have and its run properly, or am i missing something.

the other joke is that he checked my timing with the electric advance. i checked it when i got back and I was at 12 with the advance on and 5 with the plug shorted. what the heck!

the last and final thing that i'm not so happy about is he said my trail gear smog exempt stickers for the header and intake were fakes and don't count. and even if they were real, they don't mean anything you cant add a header or intake.

am I missing something here? does he have legit statements?

I would talk to someone that oversees the state inspections. In NH, we can talk to a DOT state police officer if we were failed with no justifcation, or you feel the garage was trying to rip you off.

Hell, I have found shops that will smog you in California if you can give them the ARB Smog #, even without the certificate, all they wanted was something to type into their computer.

Its true, that smog inspector is a moron. CA is not as bad as some of you may think it is. Its just the dumb inspectors.

Bring a copy of the vacuum wiring diagram that you posted up with you to your next smog. That should solve the vacuum issues. As for the header and intake, all smog inspectors use a database to look up the CARB EO number anyways so he's really a dumbass for just blatantly saying that.

Sounds to me like he's too lazy to do his homework. A quick call to BAR or BBB and things will get resolved. Although he can claim that he is refusing service because they have the right to refuse service. But at least it will be recorded.

Lastly, go to another shop.

ended up going to another shop. cleaned out some carbon from my EGR and did all new plugs and wires, the truck passed with flying colors.

A call the the Bar is definitely in my future. he charged me for his laziness so maybe Ill have a shot at something.
