Dual case build, mixing gears from two cases?

I picked up a case from a guy online and got the case, tore it down tonight, and the bearings don't seem that great inside. They feel a little "gritty". They just don't spin extremely smooth. I though it was just dirt (seems like it has sat w/o oil for quite a while), so I wd40'd the bearing on the input shaft. Helped, but it still seems like it isn't completely smooth.

I have another top shift case that I'm replacing those gears (in the other case) with upgraded ones. Can I take the same gears from the other case, assuming the bearings are better and put them in this one? I wasn't sure if there would be any issues with how the gears wear together or not. Any input/advice would be great.

Edit: 84 4runner with w56 and two top shifts.

Any bearing that isn't slick willy smooth replace. You don't want to tear into a tcase again for something you can replace now.

I have a huge storage bin of nothing but spare tcase parts from tcases past and as long as it's the right part I have had no problems Frankensteining tcases.

You might consider a bearing rebuild kit for the tcase, it replaces all the bearings and seals. It's an added cost but I typically do it unless bearings are excellent.

Thanks for the input guys. I will tear into the other case and see how that one is and if it isn't good then I'll go for the rebuild. Damn things just keep costing me money. ha ha.

I took the other ones apart and it seems 100% better. I should be able to mix and match between the two and the new parts to get two good cases for the duals.
