Differential Oil Splash Guard Thing

Hello everyone. I am putting my truck back together, and I have a question for you. In the differential, there were two splash guard type things welded in place. However, one of them got mangled, as you can see in the picture.

I'm wondering if it is important to unmangle it and weld it back in place. It must have been there for a reason, but at the same time it doesn't look like it provides much of a seal, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience driving with them removed (did this cause problems for your rear axle/differential, or were you okay?)

Thanks for any info/advice!

It's not welded in.

It's kinda like a windage tray.

Keeps the oil at the diff. Which is where it needs to be.

So, I'd recommend replacing it.

Hm. Not welded? I guess now that you mention it I see the tabs where it must snap in in the pictures.

What is that part called? Hard to replace without a name. I couldn't find it listed/pictured in my manual.

Still couldn't find it in a FSM diagram, but I think I finally found it's name in the section titled "Install Rear Axle in Housing" where it says "When inserting the axle shaft, be careful not to hit or deform the oil deflector inside the axle housing".

So. Oil deflector. Couldn't find one online to buy. I was able to find this thread, which I found amusing: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f114...ar-8-a-234397/

I guess I'll make my own.

Oil deflector? I have 2 in an old axle housing I am about to cut-up and throw away. Should I keep one set aside?

Thanks for the offer! Unfortunately I don't need it any more, as I already went to the trouble of re-shaping the orginal and welding it back together. You can't even tell the difference, right?
