custom rear bumper

I just had to throw up a picture of the addition to my rear bumper. Cam at Krawltex did the work, and it turned out way better than I expected. The original bumper from the previous owner is stout and it has taken some abuse, but it didn't offer any corner protection. On my second trip out wheeling, I broke a tail light and added two dents to the rear corners. That lead to this:

It's the original bumper with the side pipe added to it. Then he did some work to the sliders. At first, I thought it was too much pipe, but its grown on me, and now I smile when I see my truck.

One shot of the side work. The original sliders were straight with a kickout. Cameron added the tube work.

Here's the link to their gallery. Just a heads up. Cam bought my 89 SR5 4runner and he's already painted it in replica Ivan Stewart colors and added sliders and a custom bumper. It looks unbelievable. I will post pics when he's finished.

thanks for looking.

That's a good idea, and something I didn't consider at first. I just wanted some protection to keep this one clean until I have the time and funds to build up something I don't mind beating on.

That's about the same setup I'm wanting on my 4runner. But tall enough in the rear to go up to the bottom of the shell, to protect my 1/4's a little more.

That looks pretty good. Stout too. I like the idea of the pipe in front of the wheel also.

I have a truck, and eventually, i want a custom rear and front, with some sliders, and fenderwell protection front and rear. Basically linking it all together
Gonna be sick.

OP, I love your rig BTW

Great minds think alike. Except I'm gonna have a single hoop running behind the cab in case I flop it over. I will eventually link it all into an exo, but that is going to be a long while.

I'm a sucker for "custom bumper" threads! I can't scroll past them without checking them out. Nice work.

Thanks for all of the replies and ideas. I just have to state again that I had Cameron of Krawltex in Austin do the work. It was his design and work all the way. He's drawn out an addition to the front bumper(its a TJM) that I may or may not go with.
BTW, for those that have never read the history about "my" rig, you should read this :

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f115...rs-ago-119933/

In short, I bought back the truck and the guy that had it before me did all of the work. I am just now starting to make changes and deciding what I like and what I don't like.
I am putting new springs in the rear since its sagging a bit now, and I am doing crossover steering in the next few weeks. My goal now is to protect it and keep it clean while I do some wheeling and krawling, but save the hardcore wheeling for the 85 ex cab truck that's sitting in the backyard collecting dust.

One more note. Cameron and I had discussed different ways of doing a rear mounted tire carrier. I found the stock carrier from a 2nd gen, and Cam drew up a way to use that and some custom fab to make a tire carrier. That may happen in the near future, but for a DD/trail rig, I don't like the idea of losing all of that visibility.

Took me a moment, but I kinda like it.
And I'm kind of in agreement about going over the rear wheel... maybe the upper bar on the rear section could hump up and follow the fender lip, then turn down and become the last vertical on the slider...

Sorry for Hijacking the thread, but google put online an index version of their oldest archive and I discovered that rear bumpers for toyota trucks have gone from $166 in 2001 to $322 today. Almost a 100% price increase in 7 years. Yuck.

Your bumper is very nice. Might add some tabs to install tow out D-rings.
