chasing rust (pics)

it seems as though when the snorkel kit was installed, it was very poorly sealed.

after tapping and pulling with some needle nose pliers, i got tons of rust, and sealant removed from the floorboard/fender.

i may just have to take the panel off to get to everything, otherwise, it'll prolly come back with a vengeance.

plan to tap out all the weak points, slap some rust converter over it all, and rebuild the area with fiberglass.

I've restored a few vintage cars over the years and seen some fiberglass work done by previous owner's that just lifted over time and you could always tell that the moisture was the culprit. They used to much fiberglass instead of replacing a panel (patching) welding it and seam sealing the proper way.

From the pic's that looks like a nasty spot. If you can and its just a suggestion, I would try to patch area's with sheet metal as much as possible or replace whatever complete panel you need or is available . I'm just saying use as least fiberglass as possible especially in those nasty area's. Good luck with repair and I hope it all turns out okay. Just my 2 cents worth
