anyone tell trans by looking at pic

my 87 4runner doesn't have the w56. this one has been cut to fit. rustED has me thinking its a G52 or G54. I didn't know this until I go to out in new shifter seats and console cover. anyone have an idea?

i wonder if it could have been cut to fit also because of forward shift vs. top shift differences... my floorboard is probably hacked up worse than that.

doesn't look like one of the w56's, with the two seperate plates on top of the trans? one of the "g" trans maybe? i hate this toyota trans stuff.

Use OSV's link and look at your trans from underneath. Looking at your pic your are gonna want to take it to the car wash and hit it with degreaser to knock all that grime off it. It will make the ID easier

You can tell a foward shift w56 from a g52 by the position of the shifters If I remember right but they look pretty much the same in the truck. On the g52 the shifters will touch or almost touch in 2nd(might have this wrong) and 4low. And on the W56 its reverse and 4hi. Only reason I know this is I have 2 of each in my yard. I have no idea how you'd identify a g54
