AFM help Please!

Ok so here is the issue. Its an 84 pickup with a fuel injected 22r. (none of the stickers or the computer say 22re they all say 22r. Pretty sure its the original engine and not a swap.) Anyways, the truck got sunk partially in the river. The passenger front corner of the truck was under water. (the air box and afm are on the driver's side, not under water.) The truck would not run after that. made sure the water was out of the motor and oil and everything else. STill wouldnt run. It would start and run for about 5 seconds and then die. Replaced ecu. Ran good but a little sluggish. Went to go wheeling, put it in 4wd and it died. Started doing the same thing as before would start then die. I believe the problem has been narrowed to the AFM. Pulled an AFM out of my buddy's 95 truck. It ran great! Put my AFM in the 95 and it ran too! Put the old one back in and it still wouldnt run. If my AFM is bad why would it work in the other truck? I am completely stumped! Do i need a new AFM?

Research what the difference is between the two AFM's and that may give you an idea where to look.

Swap AFM's with your buddy for a day or so and see if it effects his truck the same way , if so replace it if not then check your wiring to see if you got any corrison that maybe causeing a short somewhere or a wire not making contact off and on giving you the bad signal.

Try the fuel pump test jumper:

Might be the AFM is not keeping the fuel pump running, engine starts on the pump running off the starter then runs out of gas:

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I did do the fuel pump test and the pump is fine. I ended up getting a used AFM from a guy parting out a truck. Put it on and it works great now! no problems. Thanks for the help.
