advice on 1984 tranny

i am building a samurai with a 22r on propane a g52 (1984 forward shift 5-speed) and dual cases.

I rebuilt the entire motor and both xfercases... however the tranny came out of a truck with a hole in the engine block (160k miles) my mind tells me i should just throw it in the truck and not worry about rebuilding it (since the truck stopped for obvious motor reasons) but another part of me says rebuild it while u have it out.

Advice please

Come on guys... would you spend the money to rebuild it? or do g-52 transmissions tend to live for ever anyways.

I don't think there are any aftermarket beef up products for this particular trany so it would be stock either way

drive it. It's not that tough to pull a toyota transmission. When you can get another if you want piece of mind and build it for a spare.

I have been told that the w56 is a bit stronger... but is it about the same dimensionally? As far as distance from bellhousing to shifters? I am very limited on cab space

how much stronger is a w56?

I can't answer the strength question but I will advise you, if the tranny came off an engine that was blown up, you better check out the bell housing, clutch, throwout bearing and other parts before you throw it back in. Those are the parts that would have taken the heat from the motor crashing. I took a perfectly good tranny out of a blown 3.slo, the bellhousing looked good outside but was full of fractures inside.

The guts of the transmission are probably still good since they are soaked in oil most of the time.
