85' PS Steering box vs. IFS Box

I have an 85' SR5 so it came with power steering, ( which is way better my friends non ps 85, so i feel bad for complaining ) but I drove another friends 89' stock pickup with power steering and it was much easier to turn then mine. we have the same tire size and all. but I cant palm steer my 85 when stopped but the 89 was like cake to palm while parallel parking.

My questions are

1. did anyone with power steering (push pull) box get better performance when they switched to the IFS box?
2. or is the difference the pump? should I get an IFS Pump when I switch to cross over steering.
3. I know the externals are different from an 86 box to an 89 box. but is there a difference internally?

I did lots of searching but all i found was guys going from non PS to the ifs box and adding a pump. so obviously steering got easier.

thanks for the help.

You can't just "swap".

SFA is push pull steering.
IFS is side to side

IFS box is much better system thus the reason folks switch to it on SFA Toyotas.

You need 3" of lift to add the IFS box and convert to high crossover steering.

oh yes the ifs set up is soooo much better than the push pull! with cross over steering bump steer is a thing of the past. my 84 had factory power steering and it sucked! the ride and handling is a night and day differance. the power steeing pump is the same so all you would need to do is lift the truck alittle swap out the box and add cross over. trust it's way worth the time and money.

for the O.P> and myself actually, not that it matters but I have a felling he's gonna ask, by lift you guys mean 3" spring lift or 3" body lift? Pretty sure your talking about 3" spring lift.
