'85 electrical question

I have a 1985 Toyota pickup w/ the 22R. I recently changed the alternator, starter, and battery to try and clear the break & charge light that stays on. Now the lights haven’t completely cleared they are barely on and increases in brightness as the RPM's increase. I also have noticed that the headlights dim when its driving and once I put it in neutral or push the clutch in they brighten back up.

Please help.

Check for a bad connection between the battery and the fuse box. That will cause the brake and charge lights to come on at the same time. Also check the fuses to make sure none of them are blown.

A new alternator fixed my CHARGE light. Is your's externally regulated?
My brake light is on because the tab that attaches to the e-brake handle is missing and not closing the switch that actuates the light.

My 84 did the same thing when I bought it 3 months ago, I changed alternator (after seeing if the belt was tight first) battery, battery cables, checked everything and ended up going and getting a new external regulator, and that did it...Works great now. Where the ground cable is attached to body by battery, sand/file off the paint and or rust so you can get a good body ground. And where it's grounded to engine. Clean that contact good too with sandpaper or file. The brake light stayed on too with the charging light...But after new regulator installed, it went out too at the same time when I started it. I might be in line with the same circuit (wiring to the fuse). so when the charging light comes on it gives you a double warning;} Who knows with them jap engineers;}LOL But they are great designers of the awesome toy 4x4's. I hope you get it going...good luck;}
