39.5 iroks?
hey guys.. just wondering what size of lift im gonna need to clear some 39.5's
i was thinking 7 inch suspension lift and maybe a 2 inch body lift.. what do you guys think.. im building a street queen so im not worried about fender rubbing or cutting.. i just want it to clear cleanly.. if at all possible.
also what gears should i be on the look out for?
thanks much

yea the lift thats on it sucks a$$. the front springs are practically frowning.. anyways.. does someone make a full 12'' lift kit for my truck? id rather not deal with body lifts if i can.

well...the biggest lift i've been able to find is 7.5 and its a crawler lift..(kinda tall for crawling but ok) other than that...for toyotas i've seen 7" is the biggest...run a 7" suspension then a 3in body lift....that will give you the look u want..or maybe a 2in body lift..(its safer supposedly) go with 5.71's if your building a street queen....as much as i hate street queens
...i do love BIG tires

lol mall crawlers arent that bad i want the look ,but i cant afford to go out and break a whole bunch of stuff. so its my daily driver, she see's a fair amount of dirt. anyways so 7.5 is the biggest? ive looked at the marlin crawler extreme kit and the all pro off road kit. what do you think is better?
..will 9.5 inches clear 39.5's?

Whey you gonna ruin a perfectly good 85 especially when you live in the Mecca of wheeling land?? Sell it to me and go get a full size with a bolt on ridiculous lift like the rest of the clowns around here. Your not going to find 12" of lift for an 85. Biggest I've seen is 5" suspension and it requires quite a bit of fabrication work. Your also gonna trash your stock birfs the first time you put it in 4wd with tires that big. Push pull steering is gonna be worthless with 39.5's too. As far as gears better get 5.71's if you ever plan on getting out of 2nd gear. There's a reason people spend thousands of dollars building up crawlers to run big tires. Not trying to rain on your parade but there's a lot more to putting 39's on a Toy than just bolting on a lift and going wheeling.

also very true UKMyers makes a good point.
if your ever gonna put it in 4wd then your gonna need longfields.
if you ever want to turn your gonna need hysteer.
also to put it in 4wd you will need to make the front driveshaft longer, and perhaps the rear one but im not sure.
you will need longer brake lines, i would put wheel spacers on it for a little more width. oh and if your not capable of doing all this work yourself then its gonna be alot of money for the work to be done by a shop. you cant just bolt a 7 inch lift on a toyota.

Here's how I'm fitting 39.5" Iroks under my 84 4Runner. It's a crawler, no malls for this rig

It's got maybe 5" of lift. I couldn't imagine anything taller than that, it would be hard as hell to get into the cab.

yea i can imagine, my truck has 33 mt/r's and what im told is a 3 inch lift..most people have trouble getting in already. however i was blessed with height.. at 6'5'' i have problems once im in the truck, not getting in.
since your doing almost the same thing ,what other mods are on the menu so that 39.5's will fit.. they dont have to tuck.. just sit in my wheel wells.
my general perception of what i have to change is:
driveline,
brakes,
steering,
wider stance possibly,
and gears.
how far off am i?

I also upgraded the brake system to V-6 calipers and IFS discs.
On the drivetrain side of things, I run a Marlin Dual Ultimate crawler (two transfer cases with extra low gears in the rear case) and heavy duty driveshafts.
And a CRAP LOAD of cutting

jeez.. that thing sounds cherry. i figured i would need wheel spacers too, what do you think bout the allpro off road extreme kit vs. the marlin crawler kit?
what gears should i be running for mainly driving around town ?
5.29's?
i wasnt planning on beefing up my axles or dual t cases but the hysteer comes in both kits im pretty sure and i have a ifs steering box already.
i would get raped if i had a shop do all this huh?

If you are planning on daily driving your truck and plan on keeping the 22R, you'll need at least 5.29's if not the 5.71's.
You won't need to upgrade anything axle wise if you only plan on driving it on the street. A shop would probably charge quite a bit to install a kit.

how hard is it to put one of those kits on?
i know how to weld pretty darn good so that part doesn't worry me, its the steering and the alignment of the axles so that every thing is plumb, flush and straight that gets me.
anyone ever put on a marlin crawler kit?
let me know what im in for..
thanks,
james

This is an OFF ROAD FORUM eighty5yota.
If you want to find out about a lift for your truck, Search. I am with UKMyers and 85toy, why wreck a beautiful 85 yota, sell it for an IFS! There are WAY more IFS out there and a guy who wants a truck for what the 85 is best suited would love it to death! Also, you might as well do an all body lift since you never plan on doing anything worth while other than try and make yourself look "cool" by throwing money out the window....
If you want to waste money to look cool, buy a Honda Civic... or a fullsize that cant offroad anyway.
You also better look into your local laws. Bumper height, light height, tires sticking out of the side, mud flaps, hitch height, stance width, all of this is regulated and done with strict dimensions required for a daily driven street vehicle.
I know a couple of my mudding friends from the U.P. of MI tried to go into northern MN and were told "Turn around and get out of here before I have to get out my tape measure" by the local law, some of them were running as small as 36" tires. The jerk cop also mentioned that some of the fines included, public endangerment, and insurance fraud, which can be felony offenses.
I hope this doesnt come off as a personal attack, but realize there are lots of things involved with going the extreme of 39.5, when your already on 33's that probably look good already.
