22re fueling problem?

I've got a 82 toyota with a 85 22re. When she starts ive gotta prime the engine like push push pushandhold the gas then turn the key, she's got an obvious fuel leak out of the fuel pressure damper in the front of the fuel rail, when she starts she always misses, when at say maybe less than 1/4 tank it will from time to time refuse to gain anymore rpms and can be cured by feathering the gas for a time, will run without misfires when she has a good amount of gas in her. PO says he just replaced fuel pump and throttle position sensor. I'm pretty broke. Can't be throwing parts at her. I'm hoping this fuel leak is the culprit like its a bad leak. Fuel economy has also gone to hell.

It's going to be REALLY hard to diagnose a previous owner's backyard 22re swap over the internet, but i'd start with checking the AFM and throttle position sensor. Do you have a multimeter? Also check for vacuum leaks. Pumping the throttle doesn't do anything at all on an EFI engine, BTW.

Well thank you I'm used to carbs, yah I've got a multimeter I know there's a leak coming from the air intake if that counts. This trucks a disaster but I want to learn more.

These motors don't tolerate intake leaks AT ALL. PERIOD. Make absolutely certain there are ZERO leaks after the AFM on top of the airbox. The way the engine senses how much air is coming in is by moving a spring loaded flapper in the AFM, if there's a leak , the engine is sucking in unmetered air. If enough unmetered air gets in, the flap can close completely and the engine will shut off. Start with getting those leaks fixed, should run much better.

Sweeeeet. Thanks man. I'll let you know how that works. I get my paycheck tomorrow so I can replace the duck tape monster of an air intake. No joke.
