so far the best mod that i've done for the 4runner is a new drivers seat. the old seat was like sitting in a barrel with my legs hanging over.

the LCE header, 2.25" pipe and turbo muffler was a good upgrade, but not necessarily the best per dollar in terms of enjoyment.

i just put 31" tires on the 4runner last week, and it really improved ride quality. i imagine that new springs and shocks will be very nice. sometime soon.

i'll be swapping in an r151F tranny and t-case soon, i hope that it will be nicer with the larger tire size. will report.

Complete rebuild made a WORLD of difference. All that other stuff is pointless, lift, tires, exhaust if your engine does not run properly.

I agree..........getting my runner done later this week. Oversized valves and 260 cam and rebuilt lowend to boot. Looking forward to the lowend torque.

A thorough tune up and a good header will make a good improvement on a 22RE.

could you tell a big difference after the rebuild?

mine would have to be the headers and exhaust. looking to get a cam soon. my dad put a stage 2 cam in his 94 22re and i could tell a difference!

I just built a whole engine, but I would have to say the best thing about my engine is the new cam and followers. Not the power so much (it does run nice), but that it's so quiet now. My bottom end was also pretty noisy in the old engine, so I guess having factory spec clearances on the bearings and rings helps. If it wasn't for the header and 2-1/4" exhaust, I think all you'd hear is the ticking of the injectors when it's running. I think I can actually hear the combustion in the header primary tubes where as before my engine sounded like a friggin' diesel with the chatter and mechanical sounds.
